RIOJA, WINE CULTURE
Rioja is the oldest wine Denomination of Origin in Spain, recognized as such since 1925, and with some of the best wines in the world. It is a region to live and enjoy, but Rioja is not just wine. Rioja has an extraordinary gastronomy, and is a crossroads. In Rioja, the gastronomy of Navarra, the Basque Country, Castile and Aragon merge; a perfect place to discover much more, to enjoy a great space, to walk, to learn.
We would like you to get to know Rioja in depth, discovering the history of this wine and its denomination, step by step.
WINE
Rioja wines are mainly made from Tempranillo grapes, although other varieties such as Garnacha, Graciano and Mazuelo are also used. The region is divided into three subzones: Rioja Alta, Rioja Baja and Rioja Alavesa, each with its own microclimate and soil characteristics that give rise to wines with different flavor and aroma profiles. Rioja wines are usually aged in oak barrels before being bottled, which gives them a distinctive flavor and aroma. In addition to red wines, the Rioja region also produces white and rosé wines…

We can arrange a transfer for you if necessary from any point to Elciego, the starting point of the itinerary. The closest cities are Logroño, Pamplona, Burgos, Bilbao, Vitoria and San Sebastián. The day before starting to walk we can visit a winery inside, well known above all for its architecture, or a small excursion in the area.
The appetizer includes accommodation to start your itinerary if you hurry, the next day we have a long day.
1st Course: WINE AND ARCHITECTURE (La Rioja of the 21st century)
On this first day we are going to focus on the 21st century. We invite you to explore La Rioja with us, knowing and enjoying modern architecture, one of the hallmarks of La Rioja. We will start from Elciego, an enclave where the Marqués de Riscal Winery is located, one of the most emblematic buildings in Rioja. From here, we will walk to a hotel that brings us closer to architecture, and we will visit a winery that is a hidden architectural gem.
Itinerary
Small walk to suit you. You choose how much you want to walk. If you want or need it, we support you with a transfer. We take care of everything. We send the itinerary to your mobile and we will inform you of everything. Don’t forget that we take your luggage to the destination so you don’t have to charge it while you ride.
After arriving at the hotel, we pick you up and take you to a state-of-the-art winery, where you will enjoy the best Rioja wines.
On a day when architecture is prominent, we take you to an avant-garde hotel where modernity and design are combined.
2nd Course: WINE CULTURE (Tradition and art)
On this second day, we fully immerse ourselves in the culture of wine. After a good walk among the vineyards following the course of the Ebro river, we will visit possibly the best museum related to Rioja wine. In this temple of wine, we will be able to learn about tradition and work in the vineyard as well as discover the history and future of wine from its beginnings to the present day.

3rd Course: HISTORY OF RIOJA (Railroad and phylloxera)
For the last day, we will discover the most recent history of Rioja. This region had a moment of radical change, caused by the spread of phylloxera in Bordeaux and the arrival of the railway. On this day your walk will take you to the emblematic neighborhood of Estación de Haro, where you can visit one of its wineries and learn about the history of La Rioja and the railway. Then we will take you to the center of Haro where you can continue to discover this town in the Rioja Alta and rest in one of its hotels.

On the last day of trekking we will pass through some of the most recognized vineyards in the world, arriving at the Barrio de la Estación de Haro.

On our last day we show you the best tapas bars in Haro, and wine to enjoy an incredible late night.
